Adrian Cox’s vibrant oil paintings depict ‘Borderlands’, a mythical reality with hybrid inhabitants known as ‘Border Creatures’. These creatures, representing fluid identities, coexist with glowing antagonists named ‘Specters’.
With a palette reminiscent of twilight, Cox delves into concepts of self, environment, the Monstrous, and the Other. Pagan and religious themes, as well as Cox’s own personal experiences growing up in Georgia, inform the series. Trained in classical arts, he integrates art historical references, meticulous techniques, and personal narratives, producing luminous and intricate pieces. Based in Los Angeles, his work has gained significant recognition in numerous publications.
