Twenty-year-old Gunhild Larking, the stunning Swedish high jump athlete, anxiously awaited her turn to compete at the Olympic Games.

Despite not receiving a medal in the high jump competition in Melbourne, photographer George Silk generously captured her on two entire rolls of film, for which she was thankful. Larking went on to participate in the 1952 Summer Olympics, 1954 European Athletics Championships, and 1956 Summer Olympics, achieving ninth place in 1952 and fourth place in both 1954 and 1956. She also earned five consecutive national titles between 1952 and 1956.
