Kayla Risko’s Interiors, now on view at 65GRAND in Chicago, there is an immediate sense of privacy. The hours change, the seasons are embedded, and there is this woman, alone with child, overseeing, nurturing, thinking, adjusting, understanding. Ever so small in scale, the works feel like a triumph of intimacy, of family, of coming of age and coming into one’s own as a caretaker and parent. Risko’s paintings echo the complexity of human experiences within domestic settings, as this isn’t just a still-life but the most important parts of life revealed. —Evan Pricco
