Sebas Velasco, a Spanish painter and muralist whose expressive oil paintings turn the ordinary streets, apartment blocks, aging cars, and anonymous residents of the Balkans into cinematic studies of memory, place, and time. Born in Burgos in 1988, he began in graffiti and later developed a practice spanning studio painting, illustration, and murals.

For more than a decade, Velasco has traveled, observed, photographed, and painted across the Balkans and the former Yugoslavia, particularly in Sarajevo and Belgrade. He is drawn to places where everyday life sits visibly alongside layers of collective history: modernist housing towers, fading signs, parking lots, shopfronts, concrete passages, and streets that have outlived the political systems that produced them.

His 2025 exhibition, The Morning Will Change Everything, was his first solo museum exhibition. Presented at the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, it gathered 12 paintings shaped by his long relationship with the region and its cultures, languages, music, cinema, architecture, and daily life. The title came from a song by Sarajevo band Indexi.

Velasco’s work is realist in technique but dreamlike in feeling. He paints the glow of street lamps, headlights, shop windows, and distant apartment lights against rain, fog, wet asphalt, raw concrete, and deep night shadows. A lone person or worn vehicle becomes an emotional anchor in a larger urban scene, making his paintings feel at once documentary and fictional.
